Glossary
The glossary is to provide a more thorough understanding of the technology and species involved in the Viol war of the Cries of Battle series. Currently, there are few updates from book two, and this is an ongoing edit to add more content from the books.
TIMELINE below is being updated as dates are confirmed within the book. Attempting to be as accurate as possible.

First contact

The Viol and the humans are officially opening negotiations with each other.
Savannah
268 UD
Contact with the small 300 person colony of Savannah is lost. The Royal squad joins the investigation of the issue and discovers the entire colony is dead. The slaughter occurred due to eight dragoons. A species previously unknown, requests are made to the Viol about knowledge on the creature. A false report that they were known to be wild is the answer and the beasts are slaughtered.
Attack on the shield generator
270 UD
During a routine challenge of an unknown freighter, three ships uncloak in Aerion orbit and open fire on the surface. The human response is immediate and all three ships are destroyed before they can escape. Their mission to destroy the planetary shield generator is accomplished.
Embassy Meeting on Quova

After the shield generator was destroyed, Aerion petitioned the Viol for information on the perpetrators. Regardless of the evidence against the Viol, they refused to provide information. Sierra Liandri is sent to meet with the liaison on the Viol planet, Quova. After receiving information about a "rogue" element being responsible for the attack, Sierra delivers a warning to the Viol.
Astroid base destroyed
272 UD
A convoy of humans, led by the Frigate Valiant, was attacked and destroyed by an unknown force. The human response fleet successfully tracked the attackers to a base within Viol space.
Gathering the Aerion fleet, Admiral Mark Ririe launched a counterattack that successfully eliminated the enemy. One Viol ship managed to escape, fleeing to Xython and reporting the destruction of the Viol outpost 773.
Terush Massacre
272 UD
Due to communication breaks with the colony of Terush, the Raptor battalion was dispatched to the colony to investigate.
Arriving in the system, a Viol ground attack was discovered and 4th battalion landed to assist in the defense of the colony.
Landing, the battalion discovered that the colony was overrun and the mission turned into a rescue for any survivors that they could find. In the process of evacuating survivors the Raptors lost nearly seventy percent of the battalion to include the battalion captain.
Nearly ten thousand civilians were slaughtered with the defenders and the Raptors and it was one of the first defeats of the war.
Quova Escape

At the same time as the fighting on Terush, the three embassies established on Viol worlds were attacked. The Royal squad was available to respond to Quova and arrived in time to assist in evacuating the embassy. During the rescue, several in the Royal squad received minor wounds. Sara Darrien and several of the Defender's battalion are killed.
Sashe Skirmish
272 UD
A small Viol force lands to establish a foothold. Raptor battalion assisted Razor battalion in destroying the element—no known casualties of the Raptor battalion.
Fall of Erua
272 UD
Aerion received word that Erua was under attack after an emergency transmission was received by Admiral Shill and relayed to the palace. Viol forces assaulted the surface after taking the system and eventually pushed Erua forces out of the capital, Creas.
Phalanx and Fleet forces countered the assault and retook the system to deploy reinforcements with the hopes of rescuing survivors. Over sixty percent of the landing forces were wiped out along with seventy percent of the Malden fighters deployed. Survivors of the colony numbered less than ten thousand civilians and defenders. Three hundred thousand human casualties are estimated for Erua.
Assault on Quova

In answer to the colonies lost in the first year of the war, King Rehnard authorized a strike against the Viol system, Quova. Led by the newly finished Flagship class Knighthood, the Aerion fleet crushed the Viol and bombarded the city. There were no Viol survivors on the ground, and all the ships sent to protect the Viol colony were destroyed.
Sashe Invasion
273 UD
Six months after the destruction of Quova, the Viol returned to Sashe. An estimated one hundred twenty-five thousand landed at the northern city Seaar on Sashe and began to press into the city, slaughtering everybody.
Human forces managed to regain control of the battle, but another Viol assault brought troops to the southern city where the Raptors deployed to help evacuate the civilians. Executed civilians were discovered in searched homes of those that did not escape in time.
After the southern city fell, the two Viol armies met up at the capital and assault the city. Despite the total assault taking nearly a full lunar cycle, the Phalanx was ordered off the planet with a full evacuation from the king. Resentment and bitterness toward the king began to seed itself within the Sashe population.
Urrizen Landing
275 UD
Viol landed on Urrizen and sack a small city. The first brigade deploys to the planet and assaults the main gate to retake the city. In the middle of the counterattack, Aerion informs the Brigade that Viol have landed and taken Meira. One Royal squad member is killed.
Battle of Meira
275 UD
As Viol forces drew attention to their landing on Urrizen, a larger force arrives on Aerion. Invading a city to the west of Selstra, Meira. Thousands are slaughtered as the preoccupied Phalanx was no longer on Aerion to respond. As word reached the fleet, the Phalanx pulled off Urrizen and returned to retake Meira. Second Brigade surrounded the city while First Brigade assaulted the gates. Raptor battalion flanked the main gate to take the southern gate and retake the Meira Defender compound. Megan Dothan of the Royal squad is injured severely for an evacuation to the medical moon, Pyaun.
Battle of Selstra
275 UD
While the Phalanx rushes back to Meira to unseat the Viol from the city, Viol forces advance undetected to Aerion's capital, Selstra. Over a million Viol gather and assault the capital where less than a hundred thousand trained defenders fight.
